DEGREE OF COMPARISON

Degree of Comparison consists of  :
  1. Positive Degree
  2. Comperative Degree
  3. Superlative Degree 

1. POSITIVE DEGREE
Positive Degree shows common characteristic of objects. For instance : as tall as, as expensive as, as old as and the others.
Pattern :

Subject + to be + as + adjective + as .....

Example :
                  1. This dictionary is as expensive as mine.
                  2. His brother is as clever as my sister.
                  3. This book is as thick as that one.


2. COMPERATIVE DEGREE
Comperative Degree is used to show different characteristic of objects. For instance : bigger, taller, older and the others. Comperative Degree is formed by adding -er behind the adjective, if the adjective consists of 1 syllable.
Pattern :

Subject + to be + adjective + er + than .....

Example :
                      1. This dictionary is cheaper than mine.
                      2. Your father is older than John's father.
                      3. Linda is prettier than her elder sister.

     If the adjective consists of 2 syllable or more, Comperative Degree isn't formed by adding -er behind the adjective, but Comperative Degree is formed by adding "more" in front of the adjective.
Pattern :

Subject + to be + more + adjective + than .....

Example :
                     1. Your book is more expensive than mine.
                     2. This lesson is more difficult than that one.
                     3. English is more important than Spanish.


3. SUPERLATIVE DEGREE
Superlative Degree is used to show levels "most" of objects. For instance : most diligent, the youngest, the oldest and the others. Superlative Degree is formed by adding -est behind the adjective if the adjective consists of 1 syllable.
Rumus  :

Subject + to be + the + adjective + est .....

Example : 
                   1. He is the cleverest among them all.
                   2. Jones is the oldest student in our class.
                   3. You are the laziest member in our club.

     If the adjective consists of 2 syllable or more, Superlative Degree isn't formed by adding -est to the adjective, but Superlative Degree is formed by adding "most" in front of adjective.
Pattern :

Subject + to be + the + most + adjective .....

Example :
                         1. Jones is the most intelligent student.
                         2. This is the most beautiful flower.
                         3. That is the most expensive shirt.
